Location: Lower St Joe, Avery down
Weather: Getting some nice weather this weekend, mid 60's and sunshine. More precip coming next week.
Water Condition: Flows have gone down significantly from last weekend and are currently sitting at 3,740 cfs. These are great flows for wade fishing or floating.
Fish Species: Westslope Cutthroat
Fishing Techniques: Hopper Dropper, Nymphing, and Streamers have all been productive!
Hatches: Winter Stoneflies (Nemoura Stonefly)
Report:
We had our first guide trip on the St Joe last Saturday, March 29th, and fishing was productive. Most fish were caught nymphing with long leaders and heavy tungsten nymphs to get down in the high flows.
With flows on the decline and warmer temperatures, you can expect some great spring fishing. Hopper droppers with smaller stonefly patterns, nymphing, and streamer fishing will all produce.
Focus on the lower sections below Avery... Skwalas will be out soon, so make sure you have some in your fly box ready to go!
